Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for researching, developing and writing final-form motions, legal memoranda, appellate briefs and other pleadings. Typical work assignments will include the following: Research and analyze case facts, issues, and principles of law, to develop legal memoranda, responses, and appellate briefs. Demonstrate proficiency with Westlaw, Lexis, and other online legal resources or publications. Research and draft appellate briefs and other complex legal documents. Review and edit appellate briefs and other filings to ensure compliance with Tenth Circuit Rules and Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. Provide spontaneous analysis on trial issues regarding federal and local rules and statutes. Provide guidance and assistance to attorneys and support staff on district court and appellate matters. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service.To be eligible you must meet the following Specialized Experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that includes the following: Perform substantive research and analysis of a variety of legal topics to assist in the development of cases and matters. Exercise independent judgment in drafting complex legal documents, clearly presenting complex and interrelated concepts and ideas independently, with limited guidance or instruction. Knowledge of legal techniques and skills necessary to analyze both issues of fact and issues of law to summarize case decisions, evaluate legal precedent and draft briefs and other litigation papers. Ability to effectively advocate legal positions by presenting facts and arguments in a logical and persuasive manner. A preferred candidate would have a J.D., but it is not required. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
