This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the General Counsel, headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

This position is in the Civil Rights Division (CRD) of OGC. The Deputy Associate General Counsel for Civil Rights reports to the Associate General Counsel for Civil Rights and provides and oversees provision of complex and highly significant legal counsel to OGC senior management officials, as well as senior officials in the Office of the Secretary, OCR, and other HHS agencies, and to other officials throughout the Executive Branch. This management role includes overseeing the legal review of all activities in relation to civil rights, conscience, and equity-related legal work conducted by the Division - including key enforcement activities, significant regulatory and guidance documents, and proposed legislation.

Qualifications

1. Four or more years of legal experience or comparable experience in federal civil rights and/or conscience law. 2. Demonstrated experience and/or interest in the federal civil rights and/or federal conscience laws delineated above. 3. Administrative or federal court litigation experience strongly preferred. 4. Familiarity with the Administrative Procedure Act or regulatory experience is desirable. Your resume and supporting documentation will be used to determine whether you meet the position qualifications listed in this announcement. The following are required qualifications: You must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited ABA law school. Proof that bar status is active, in good standing and eligible to practice in the highest court of a State, U. S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. You must have at least four years of experience after law school as an attorney. You must possess experience working on civil rights and conscience legal issues and/or Equal Protection matters; have strong organizational, interpersonal, legal writing, and legal research skills; and a commitment to professionalism and public service.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
