The primary purpose of this position is to Functions as a Production Machinery Mechanic for the purpose of maintaining the mechanical portion of installed mechanical equipment located in the 97 AMW /MXFF, Manufacturing Flight in serviceable condition. Processes include, minor adjustments and/or repairs, major overhauls, inspections, and operational testing.

Duties

- Performs lubrication, disassembly, rigging, major and minor adjustments and/or repairs, and overhaul of standard mechanical or complex and multi-function production machinery. Lubricates, adjusts, reworks, removes and replaces or modifies parts to restore equipment to a serviceable condition. - Troubleshoots and analyses equipment problems and malfunctions. Troubleshoots malfunctions, which are not obvious preparatory to making repairs. -Installs, aligns, maintains numerous types of fixed and semi fixed production machinery and equipment. Operates or observes operation of equipment to assure equipment is operating satisfactorily. Assembles new machine tools and equipment at the time of installation. - May be required to assist higher-grade mechanics, or contractor, in the repair of electronic components, overhaul, adjustment and preventive maintenance of production machinery. Repairs machinery having precision ways, works alone or with another mechanic of the same or lower grade.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the rigging/installation operation, repair/overhaul of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic machinery to include machine tools and the methods used to overhaul mechanical equipment. 2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprint specifications, machine drawings, technical orders, manuals, standards and regulations along wing the ability to follow safety requirements as outlined in these. 3. Ability to modify/ make adjustments to all production machinery, components, and subsystems along with the ability to disassemble and reassemble production machinery and components in proper sequence. 4. Ability to clean work area and or job site accounting for and securing tools, equipment, and materials. 5. Knowledge of mechanical test stands to include hydraulic, electrical hydrostatic and pneumatic systems. 6. Ability to diagnose and determine methods of repair of mechanical and test equipment, components, and subassembly malfunctions. Skill in using various types of general and special purpose measuring instruments, tools and test equipment. Ability to detect wear patterns of mechanical equipment or components and estimate serviceability of parts. PHYSICAL EFFORT Production machinery mechanics frequently handle objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. They are required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS Production machinery mechanics usually perform work inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. They are frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Occasionally, work is preformed from ladders and staging exposing the mechanics to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used. Work is preformed outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions on occasions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
