Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist with the United States Attorney's Office, Criminal Division. Typical duties will include: Provides administrative and technical supervision to Paralegal Specialists and Legal Assistants. Serves as the principal advisor to the Criminal Chief regarding all administrative matters. Monitors work to ensure high quality of work and deadlines are met. Oversees time and attendance/leave requests, assuring adequate coverage due to workload and absences. Assists with criminal litigation of cases by performing specialized research and writing in support of attorneys. Provides assistance in trial preparation. Produces a variety of written legal documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing administrative and technical guidance to other employees; mentoring and demonstrating leadership to other employees; analyzing and evaluating facts and legal issues, and applying applicable law, regulations, and policies to present complex and interrelated concepts and ideas; and draft briefs, notices of appeal, motion, and/or other litigation documents.

Education

Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this series/grade level.
