This position serves as a Supervisory Paramedic (EMT-P) at the Cheyenne River Service unit, Eagle Butte, SD. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the ambulance program and the secondary purpose is to perform advanced technical health care extender functions within the emergency medical arena in response to various accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness. *There may be Government housing available for this position, depending on availability.

Duties

Responsible for assisting the Emergency Department Medical Director with the implementation and provision of Emergency Medical Services. Responsibilities include; 1) Developing policies and procedures covering EMS operations; 2) assuring that EMS services provided are of proper quality and consistent with recognized standards of care; 3) coordinating the delivery of EMS services with health facility staff; 4) evaluating EMS services; and 5) assuring that appropriate training is available to maintain skills of EMS providers. Independently conducts a complete assessment using advanced knowledge of topographic anatomy; knowledge of major body systems; knowledge of emergency medical techniques; and knowledge of understanding legal considerations of emergency care. Manages the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff budget and assists the subordinate supervisors with managing their shifts and monitors all Emergency Medical Service (EMS) contracts. The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepares schedules for completion of work; evaluates work performance of subordinates; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions; hear and resolve complaints from employees; effects minor disciplinary measures; identify training needs of employees; approves leave, etc. This announcement is open until filled and will remain open until a sufficient applicant pool is obtained. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Basic Requirements: OPM Link:Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Experience Include:Serving as a lead and/or technical advisor pertaining to Emergency Medical Services; overseeing and planning the work of other paramedics and subordinate staff members; observing workers' performance and assist in evaluating the Emergency Medical Services department performance and managing department budget. Performing the duties and responsibilities of a paramedic that includes but is not limited to responding to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness; administering life-sustaining aid to patients; performing patient triage and employing a variety of advanced emergency medicine procedures during transport in accordance with protocols. **Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the basic requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must possess and provide proof of a current unrestricted Paramedic Certification or Licensure from any US State or Territory. Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position. Time In Grade: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
