Duties

This Supervisory Information Technology Specialist serves as the District Information Technology (IT) Manager with overall responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving three or more IT specialty areas, which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Missouri which includes two geographically distant branch offices. The USAO IT environment includes personal computers, routers, switches, bridges, a wide area network and local area network, operating systems, case management systems and litigation support systems. Typical work assignments will include: Serving as the first line supervisor for the information technology staff. Planning and assigning work, developing performance standards, monitoring performance, preparing performance ratings, approve leave, resolving disputes, identifying deficiencies, and recommending training. Consulting with the AO and HRO on serious performance and conduct problems and proposed changes in duties or assignments. Performing advanced and complex systems design, development, test, and implementation of substantially new applications of IT technology to meet specialized, unique, or unprecedented needs of the USAO Maintaining district-wide responsibility for testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, maintenance, and management of networked systems used for the transmission of information in data, voice and/or video format. Ensures systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency. Providing customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements. Providing specialized support and service for electronic, physical and communications security systems installed at USAO

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification(s)). Individuals must have IT-related experience and training demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work until provides, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations; AND GS-13 Specialized Experience: At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service or private sector, which is in or related to work in the Information Technology (IT) field and demonstrates possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail; Customer Service, Oral Communications; and Problem Solving. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: configuring, installing, or managing network systems; installing Windows based servers and maintaining existing servers; assessing Information Technology policy needs; establishing metrics to measure and evaluate systems performance; performing network diagnostics and resolving network problems; maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; installing and maintaining compatible database. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
