Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for performing routine litigation support tasks necessary to prepare or manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework, using a variety of methods and software applications. Typical work assignments will include: Consults with litigation team members (e.g., attorney, investigators, legal support staff) tounderstand case needs and technical requirements. Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tacking forms. Use Software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices or download electronic case materials in compliance with office policies and procedures. Organizes and prepares electronic files for processing. Uses specialized software applications to perform basic processing of common electronic files. When requested, organizes, and prepares hard copy documents for scanning. Builds and maintains document review databases for litigation team use. Loads image, native or text files into document review databases; performs quality control on loads files and addresses any identified issues. Uses basic document review database functions such as coding, tagging, basic searching, sorting, and filtering, and advises litigation teams on these functions use. When requested and following established procedures, prepares electronic discovery productions for transmittal to opposing parties. Uses software applications to copy electronic discovery productions to external media or file transfer systems. Works with litigation team members to understand case presentation needs. Suggest methods or software application for presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits. Creates electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials. Assists with the creation of basic demonstrative exhibits. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable

Qualifications

GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the federal service or private sector. Specialized experience is described as assisting an attorney with trial preparation, including making recommendations on how to proceed with trial presentations; utilizing office tools, including specialized software, in order to create physical and digital trial presentations; working with investigators, agents, and legal support staff; handling a wide variety of evidence and discovery; and providing technical assistance to litigation teams. Or Education: Education in a related field: a J.D. or LL.B; OR a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or higher (in a related field, e.g. Finance, Criminal Justice, Law); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.; or Combining Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required graduate education you have earned. Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Transcripts required). In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
