The primary purpose of this ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (AEROSPACE/DRAFTING), GS-0802-09, position is in support of design and fabrication of rocket sled test vehicle and related projects for the Holloman High speed test track. Duty Title: Aerospace Engineering Technician

Duties

Independently plan the method to portray, prepare, and produce final engineering drawings that will be used to fabricate rocket powered sleds, complex aerospace equipment, and associated hardware needed to conduct research and developmental testing. Coordinate and consult with engineers, program managers, and the operations flight before and after drawings are developed to make sure they meet all design requirements and can be fabricated using available fabrication equipment and techniques. Use highly technical drafting software to maintain engineering drawings, and uses/maintains all associate duplication/copying equipment. Assist and train civilian and military personnel on proper use of this equipment. Knowledge of the proper use of weld symbols and machining callouts used on mechanical fabrication drawings.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the Engineering Technical Series, 0802. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have or within 120 days of the closing of this announcement will have, at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-07) level or equivalent (grade level, pay schedule, pay band, etc) and is described in detail in my resume. Specialized experience includes knowledge of drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have successfully completed two full years of graduate education or a master's degree, if related. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have equivalent combinations of graduate education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-?grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, although there is some walking in offices, production areas, utility plants, maintenance, and work areas. Work may involve carrying lightweight items, such as briefcases, notebooks, test equipment, and work papers, or operating a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort or ability. Work Demands: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting/training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in engineering drawings; and the equipment, facilities, and systems of mechanical, aerospace, electrical, civil, and architectural engineering disciplines using mechanical engineering/graphic design software to accomplish unusually difficult and one-of-a-kind drafting assignments. 2. Knowledge of and skilled in the use of the processes, materials, equipment, and techniques of welding, machining, heat treating, and sheet metal fabrication. 3. Knowledge of the proper use of weld symbols and machining callouts used on mechanical fabrication drawings. 4. Ability to prepare original and complex drawings that are neat, accurate, appropriately dimensioned, and logically arranged, utilizing the methods and techniques of drafting; and print neatly and legibly, both freehand and with mechanical lettering devices. 5. Ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas. 6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
