The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an electrician for fire alarms. Install, modify, overhaul, maintain troubleshoot, test and repair fire alarm systems, including the city loop and digitizer at the Fire station, and other alarm equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity. This position reports to the Alarms & EMCS Lead.

Duties

1. Installs, modifies overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fire alarm systems and equipment of moderate complexity or a system of moderate complexity. 2. Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures 3. Maintains software/firmware for new installs and makes programming changes to existing software/firmware for alarm systems, subsystems and devices. 4. Uses and maintains hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. 5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization
  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays. The incumbent is subject to call seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
  • Employee must maintain current certifications. The work will require the employee to carry an electronic beeper or cell phone
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments, Work will require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Safeguards budget-related information and/or files. May be required to train/guide other employees.
  • Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and Real World Threats and Events.
  • Employee will be required to support Special Events (i.e. Annual Air Show, Base Exercises) not necessarily performing in their primary skill code. Employee will be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team.
  • Possession of a Class D Systems Technician License (electrician) or greater is required in accordance with UFC 3-601-02 8 September 2010 Unified FACILITIES CRITERIA (UFC) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE:INSPECTION, TESTING, and MTC.
  • The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria for the Fair Labor Standards Act 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Trouble shooting (electrical) This is an open continuous announcement and will be used to fill vacancies as openings occur.
