About the Position: Serves as mission Safety Specialist for the United States Army Training Center, Fort Jackson. Eligible for situational telework ONLY, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".

Duties

Serves as mission Safety Specialist for the United States Army Training Center, Fort Jackson. Provides leadership guidance and advice to additional duty safety officers and NCOs in the interpretation of regulations/standards to achieve sound safety program objectives. Participates in safety councils chaired by brigade level commanders. Ensures safety is integrated into all missions and acts as an advisor to commanders in the resolution of safety concerns.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable T1 (background) investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state driver's license.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 10% may be required.
  • MISSION ESSENTIAL: This is an inclement weather essential position. Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position supports the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Fort Jackson during national disasters, weather etc. This position will support 24-hour operations if deemed necessary by the command during emergency situations.
  • A pre-employment physical is required. Must be able to lift/move up to 30 lbs.
  • Employee must possess CP-12/FC-12 CP-12/FC-12 Safety Professional Certification in Safety and Occupational Health in accordance with the regulation at the time of appointment. A copy of the certificate must be uploaded with your application packet.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Scheduling safety and health inspection programs to meet regulatory requirements; 2) preparing safety policies to ensure compliance is met; and 3) inspecting or surveying various sites and equipment to alleviate potential safety hazards; such as military training areas/ranges, tactical vehicles, ammunition and explosives operations, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: CP-12/FC-12 Safety Professional Certification in Safety and Occupational Health in accordance with the regulation. A copy of the certificate must be uploaded with your application packet. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). NOTE: Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
