Duties

You will serve as a Ship Superintendent in the Project Office, Mobile Detachment (Code 910) of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair (SUPSHIP), Gulf Coast. You will provide general oversight of craft construction to include new construction, modification, maintenance, and/or repair on the waterfront, from the start of fabrication through DD 250 delivery and sail-away. You will monitor all aspects of ship construction, trials, crew integration, and guarantee period. You will monitor construction progress, negotiate changes on the waterfront, and act as liaison with the contractor construction deck plate representatives. You will participate in preparations for compartment inspection and readiness validation for all milestones, including Launch, Builders Trials, Acceptance Trials, transits, dry dockings, and other special events. You will provide coordination/guidance/assistance for the Ship’s Force relative to crew move aboard, ship loadout, and other ship/crew integration activities. You will coordinate with Ship’s Force and the Contractor as necessary to de-conflict crew activities and any ongoing contractor work.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying a practical knowledge of shipbuilding methods, practices, production techniques, or management control systems and their application to the construction/testing of ships. Examples of qualifying experience may include (1) knowledge of Government, DOD, Navy regulations, and procedures as they pertain to shipbuilding; (2) broad knowledge of ship working drawings, design and specification requirements, and design methods and procedures applicable to US Navy Vessels; (3) knowledge of hull structures and outfitting to include marine machinery, piping, electrical, and electronic systems; (4) knowledge of production and material costs related to the shipbuilding industry.
