This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administrator (DEA), Office of Congressional Affairs (CA), Arlington VA. This position(s) primary purpose is to support the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs. Relied upon by the Administrator and the Chief, Congressional and Public Affairs to continuously provide timely and accurate information, as well as sound guidance and strategic recommendations on Congressional issues.

As a Congressional Liaison Specialist your typical work assignments may include: Planning directing, and executing liaison operations for critical agency-wide programs and appropriations with national or international implications in order to ensure the agency is best represented before Congressional members, committees, and in meetings with staff. Providing extensive interpretation and insight to agency management regarding Congressional inquiries and activities. Responding to Congressional inquiries based on expert knowledge and understanding of programmatic activities. Consulting with all levels of management, other federal agencies, and Congressional offices. Exercising a broad degree of independence and applies authoritative judgment in developing and maintain relationships with various stakeholders in the government and Congress.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 Federal grade level performing the following: 1) Reviewing and analyzing legislative proposals, Congressional letters and meeting requests related to controlled substances; 2) Analyzing and understanding congressional activities effecting agency programs, budgets and authorities to articulate orally or in writing in a succinct manner; 3) Providing extensive interpretation and insight to agency management regarding Congressional inquiries and activities.; and, 4) Interpreting program planning and evaluation of congressional policy, goals, and development. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
