Duties

Confers with leadership, technical experts and tenant units to obtain information for use in responses to inquiries. Conducts public affairs planning and executes Media Relations strategies for external campaigns for special events and/or news of interest to local, regional and national civilian media. Performs quality control of media releases, fact sheets, bios, and imagery distributed to media outlets/reporters to ensure appropriateness and integrity of information being released. Compiles a list of valuable local, regional and national media outlets, and builds specific techniques and strategies to disseminate information to them.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • May be required to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime to support mission/installation functions.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes::Participating in producing journalism and/or editorial material for an organization; managing websites and/or social media outlets; assisting in creating news releases, fact sheets and/or brochures for an organization and utilizing available resources collect and assemble material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization practices. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Affairs, Media Relations, Communications Development. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication CounselCommunications and MediaPublic Affairs Policies and ProceduresWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
