This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Surgery Department of Claremore Indian Hospital, Claremore, Oklahoma, a 50-bed hospital/medical facility in the Oklahoma City Area. The surgical services provided are dental/oral surgery, general surgery, podiatry surgery, and obstetric and gynecologic surgery. The Lead Operating Room Nurse reports to Supervisory Clinical Nurse.

Duties

Formulates work schedules, including shift operations as necessary; plans work assignments based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees; and makes adjustments as needed to respond to workload demands. Responsible for maintaining patient flow and efficiency in order to expedite onset of treatment and to ensure customer satisfaction, patient safety, patient confidentiality, and productivity. Serves as a resource person, provides guidance and leadership to staff. Ensures adequate staffing for current shift and next 24 hours standby and/or call back. Provides nursing care within the Perioperative Nursing Scope of Practice. The scope of Perioperative nursing is very complex, comprehensive, and unique as it includes the provision of care that ranges from birth to death, injury prevention, women's health, disease, and life/limb saving measures.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: 1 - Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Degree from Foreign Medical School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools must be included in your application if you graduated from a foreign nursing school. 2 - License: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. 3 - Specialized Experience: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-11: Developing policies and procedures for infection control to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements; knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and procedure to apply infection control practice to hospital programs; knowledge of The Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services, Center of Disease Control, and Occupational Safety Health Association's accreditation policies and guidelines; ability to analyze data, conduct rounds, and initiate the appropriate action with the findings; skill in research methodology including design, data collection, and analysis required for interpreting current research articles and reports; experience with conducting educational training on infection prevention in a large group setting; skill with providing oversight, direction, and coordination of projects and investigations related to infection control services. OR A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
