This position is located in the Division of Radiological Safety & Security within the Decommissioning, ISFSI & Reactor Health Physics Branch, Decommissioning Team. The supervisor is Anthony Dimitriadis, Branch Chief. This position is Non-Bargaining Unit.  This position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure and Security Ownership Restriction reporting requirements.  

Duties

The successful candidate will serve as the Decommissioning Team Leader for the Decommissioning Team in the Division of Radiological Safety & Security within the Decommissioning, ISFSI and Reactor Health Physics (DIRHP) Branch.  You will be responsible to: Lead, oversee and coordinate the implementation of the nuclear power reactor decommissioning program, including the inspection and assessment review process; and, Coordinate interactions with the Chief, DIRHP, Division Director and Deputy Director, and other program offices for the region regarding the development, implementation, and maintenance of the nuclear power reactor decommissioning inspection program and assessment areas.  The Team Leader will provide supervisory and technical support for less than 25% of the time in Region I’s implementation of the regional program pertaining to inspection of complex facilities, conducting remediation of areas contaminated with/or using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials, active and decommissioning reactor and/or materials facilities and serve on working groups and special projects impacting the nuclear power reactor decommissioning inspection program to shape policy and effectively implement the program. The Team Leader will also support reactive responses to occurrences at facilities.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, in addition to the basic education requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.   SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes experience that demonstrates excellent communication skills with external stakeholders, especially states and other regulatory authorities, and the ability to present clear and concise technical reports, plans and procedures regarding the NRC inspection program for power reactors and/or materials facilities.  Ability to provide effective leadership and to assure organizational effectiveness in communicating ideas orally and in writing, and ability to apply policies and regulations related to the NRC inspection program and policies pertaining to plant status, modifications, surveillances, problem identification and resolution, fire protection, radiation protection, radiological control, and radiological effluent and environmental monitoring.   The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following: 1.  Demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate efforts associated with implementation of the nuclear power reactor (operating or decommissioning) or materials inspection program. 2.  Demonstrated ability to oversee and lead the implementation of the NRC inspection program. 3.  Demonstrated experience with allegation review, processing and assessment of concerns or potential concerns associated with the inspection program. 4.  Demonstrated project management skills, including establishing guidelines and assignments for the team to assure timely accomplishment of program objectives and workload, effective utilization of staff competencies, training and time. Education

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  Candidates must have a thorough current understanding of the principles, theories, and practices in one or more relevant fields of physical science or engineering gained through several years of specialized professional experience.  In addition to training and experience, generally, these knowledge requirements are met by having a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant professional physical science discipline (e.g. general or health physics, radiation physics, engineering physics, chemistry, etc.) or relevant engineering discipline (e.g. nuclear, materials, metallurgical, chemical, radiological, etc.) from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
