About the Position: Responsible for planning and executing command information, media relations and community relations activities to inform the general and specialized publics, the workforce, news media (including national and foreign) and other government agencies about TEAD missions, policies, and activities.

Duties

Maintain effective working relationships with members of the news media, labor organizations, small business and industrial organizations. Serve as official spokesperson for the Commander regarding the installations position to the public. Serve as the public affairs advisor to the Commander and key members of the installation. Identify public affairs problems emanating from survey results, changes in installation mission, analysis of media coverage, and feedback from community. Prepare articles for publication in internal and external journals, papers, etc., reporting on installation and employee achievements. Serve as the installations official contact with the public, utilizing all possible information channels including television and radio. Respond to information requests about the installation from local, regional, and national news media, industrial organizations and specialized or general publics in written or oral form. Represents the Commander at service and community meetings, participating as an active member and officer in various community and social service organization. Plan, coordinate, and execute various programs such as Veterans Day, Depot Open Houses, and guided tours for civilian visitors. Serve as the voice for marketing events, in booths, symposiums, and expositions.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes writing news releases or feature articles for local and/or national prints or broadcast outlets; and drafting public affairs communication plans, policies or regulations for a command/organization or office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaOral CommunicationWeb TechnologyWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
