Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, on Lake Superior between Munising and Grand Marais. Munising offers basic amenities, schools, and medical facilities. Summers are warm, while winters last from October to May, bringing over 140 inches of snow, perfect for various outdoor sports. Duties

Directs an intricate program of biology and other resource management activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of park issues. Prepares and/or coordinates the efforts of others in the preparation of a cultural resource management plan and specific actions plans for the management and protection of cultural resources. Identifies research needs, prepares requests for research proposals or statements of work, and provides oversight for research projects. Serves as a Contracting Officer's Technical Representative for projects conducted through contracts, interagency agreements, and cooperative agreements. Prepares management and scientific reports regarding the results of protection, mitigation, reintroduction, inventory, monitoring, and research activities. Summarizes new and conventional information for use by scientists, managers, park staff, cooperators, and partners. Incumbent provides supervision to the Branch employees and is responsible for the following:

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. BASIC REQUIREMENTS This position has basic requirements that must be met in addition to specialized experience. You must meet the basic requirements for at least one of the below series. You do not need to meet both. Basic Requirements for 0401 - Natural Resources Management Series: To qualify for this series, you must possess either: A. A degreeinbiological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirements for 0101 - Social Sciences Series: To qualify for this series, you must possess either: A. A degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. -OR- C. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the basic requirements above, you must also meet the specialized experience for this position as described below-- EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience could include planning, implementing and/or administering a natural resource program in the public lands environment; developing programs for the management of natural resources in a park or similar organization; designing, developing scientific monitoring protocols to identify, evaluate and monitor resources. Stabilization, protection, restoration and enhancement of natural resources. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
