Duties

Interfaces with Air Force Inspection Agency (AFIA), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), United States (US) Navy, US Army, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) and Air Mobility Command (AMC) inspection team analysts to properly characterize issues. Manages directorate inspection planning and support programs. Represents HQ AFGSC/IG with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

  • Personal Protective Equipment such as safety-toed shoes, hard hat or other similar protective gear or clothing may be required. Additionally, cold weather attire will also be required during inclement weather.
  • Must have or be able to maintain an obtain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Work requires extensive periods of travel on average 170 days per year-away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Work requires residing in barracks, guest quarters, or motels.
  • As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Prior inspection experience is highly desired.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. (cont'd)

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Administrative and Management Positions for General Inspection Investigation Enforcement and Compliance Series ,1801. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices of the occupation sufficient to carry out difficult and complex work assignments. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to improve organizational efficiency/productivity; develops new or modified work methods, processes or procedures. Knowledge of the major programs, mission, and functions of the organization. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge, understanding, and experience of the current missions, capabilities, organization and operations of the Inspector General. Skills in conducting Major Command (MAJCOM) Inspector General (IG) formal inspections, including scheduling, planning, coordinating, executing and reporting on nuclear surety, nuclear and conventional operational and compliance inspections to include functions for directing the developing, e1ecuting and evaluating of exercise scenarios within the context of a formal inspection. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written. Ability to use good judgment and show analytical/logical thought processes, and apply to large volumes of data to arrive at recommended actions. Ability to analyze self-inspection, and formal inspection results in context witl1 other Department of Defense (DoD) data to properly determine and predict trend information pertaining to nuclear and conventional mission readiness. Ability to evaluate, plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
