You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/GEOPHYSICIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/MATHEMATICIAN in the Mine Warfare Analysis & Database Division of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will serve as an official representative of the Mine Warfare Department, the Naval Oceanographic Office, and the U.S. Navy at technical meetings and conferences. You will serve as a principal scientist for oceanographic, hydrographic, bathymetric, or geophysical surveys. You will serve as a principal scientist in the development and maintenance of master file environmental databases for the Mine Warfare Department.

Qualifications

For GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Experience and knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of the physical sciences including physics, geophysics, oceanography, mathematics, and statistics sufficient to solve new and difficult problems in underwater acoustics not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods. 2. Experience and knowledge of the equipment and systems utilized during geophysical and acoustic surveys, survey logistics, procedures and methods utilized to collect geophysical and acoustic data, and post-collection data processing and analysis. 3. Experience and knowledge to prepare and present technical documents and information during meetings and briefings. 1. Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

2. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

1. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
