This position is with the Dental Service, Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center in Little Rock, AR.

Duties

Duties: Designs and fabricates metal substructures for both porcelain and acrylic veneers, applying a knowledge of recognized techniques and master of the art of dental ceramics and plastics which follow fixed patterns. Shapes wax to contours desired in the final dentures, and to the thickness required to maintain facial contours, insure comfort and provide proper fit. Construct removable partial dentures in order to preserve and maintain what remains as well as fill in the missing spaces. Gives training and basic dental laboratory instructions to special assigned on an intermittent basis for understudy or training in terminology, morphology and oral anatomy and understanding of dental materials and use of tools and equipment. Researches out the best materials for use in laboratory procedures involving "state of the art" implants, alloys, biocompatible nylon thermo plastic dentures, porcelain, permanent soft-liners and light cured materials. Plan and conduct laboratory instruction for residents, interns and lower level laboratory technicians as needed. Works closely with oral surgeons, prosthodontists and other dental and medical staff such as Radiotherapy Service in collaboration of the design and construction of wax compensation of the face for patients with face lesions. Observe dental abnormalities chairside, when needed. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30Pm. (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency). Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/17/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirements: Dental Laboratory Technician must posses the following experience: Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials; Use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. Use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers; Construction of dental prosthetic appliances. This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable. In addition to meeting the above individual occupational requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience or education substitution below. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Dental Laboratory Technician position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Designing and fabricating simple and complex restorative cases for both fixed and removable prostheses; Utilizing analog and digital workflows to fabricate implant restorations or orthodontic appliances; Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials and Use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one and one half (1-1/2) years of graduate education in a degree program directly related to the work of this position. NOTE: Copies of transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Education and TrainingPartneringTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work involves periods of sitting and standing. It involves the use of various dental lab machines. Extensive and detailed use of the hands is required.
