This position is located within the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Midwest Area in Bowling Green, KY. In this position you will generally work with a high degree of independence in performing work assignments and determine how to complete tasks and select the proper equipment for the conditions to complete the task in a safe and efficient manner.

Duties

Keeps rest rooms clean, orderly, and in sanitary condition. Cleans and sets up chair arrangements in conference rooms. Runs hand or powered mowers and trimmers. Possesses knowledge of the appropriate and safe use of special sanitizing and cleaning solutions to remove stains from a variety of surfaces. Cleans offices, corridors, stairways, entryways, laboratories and other areas. Keeps stock of cleaning material and equipment needed to do the work. Moves furniture, boxes, cabinets, crates and equipment to clean areas.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 05/16/2024 Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a Custodial Worker without more than normal supervision (Screen Out)). Applicants who do not meet the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT will not be given further consideration. Physical Effort The incumbent must be able to operate and control floor maintenance machines, move, and control heavy equipment and carry, set up, and work from ladders. Must be able to lift and move objects weighing 40 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Operates mower and trimmer and shovels snow off walkways leading to building. Position requires bending and lifting and moderate to heavy physical effort when mopping or moving furniture. Working Conditions The work is usually performed in offices, common public areas, Headhouse/Greenhouse, or outdoor facilities. The work involves exposure to strong cleaning solutions, disagreeable odors, and exposure to hot and cold conditions, high noise and vibration levels, and occasionally to harmful biological, chemical, and physical agents. Protective devices such as gloves, goggles, face mask, or respirators and immunizations may be required. The health status of personnel may be monitored periodically using biologic and serologic tests and physical examinations if required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
