This position is located in Haleakala National Park, in the Intergrated Resources Management Division, Branch of Vegetation Management. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately August to mid-July, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Major Duties include: Identifying native plants. Conducting surveys. Collecting/analyzing data. Management of the park's greenhouse program. Production of native plants for restoration of sites denuded by human activities. Research and development of propagation methods for native plants. Monitoring of restored sites. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/08/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess BOTH of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HORTICULTURE SERIES, 0437 A bachelor's or higher degree in horticulture; or a related discipline of basic plant science that included at least 30 semester hours in the basic plant sciences, of which at least 16 semester hours were in horticultural subjects such as those dealing with the breeding, care, management, production, and post-harvest handling of horticultural crops. Courses in botany, plant physiology, plant taxonomy, plant pathology, genetics, agronomy, horticulture, and similar courses may be used to meet the 30-semester-hour requirement in basic plant sciences. The 16-semester-hour requirement in horticulture includes course work in basic horticulture and course work related to any of the recognized subject-matter fields of horticulture, i.e., fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, nursery work, seed production, or course work in related areas of science, such as micro-biology, entomology, plant pathology, plant physiology, or genetics that is directly related to horticultural work. Note: You must submit a copy of ALL transcripts with your application. -OR- A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in horticulture or a related discipline of basic plant science that included course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. Note: You must submit a copy of ALL transcripts with your application. -AND- EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). (Note: one grade interval work such as assistant or technician work in a single grade occupational series at the GS-07 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS-08 level may). This experience includes activities such as: identifying plants, propagating plants from seeds and cuttings, conducting surveys and collecting/analyzing data. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in an area of study related to the position. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Please note: only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used in this calculation. Education must be in excess of the first year (18 semester hours); 27 semester hours is equivalent to 50% of education requirement. When combining education and experience the total must be at least 100%. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
