You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Ship Silencing Branch (Code 264), Design Division, Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will direct and coordinate work of assigned personnel with the goal of achieving the objectives of the branch. You will determine what procedures will be utilized in the conduct of acoustical surveys and formulate the necessary survey agenda to be followed by the ship and the survey team. You will determine survey requirements in terms of scope of testing and instrumentation required to support needed testing. You will participate in and coordinate the breakdown and analysis of survey data and the development of reports containing recommended corrective action. You will participate in shop and shipboard vibration testing of overhauled submarine and surface ship auxiliary machinery for the purpose of assuring satisfactory operation form the standpoints of ship silencing and mechanical integrity. You will formulate procurement specifications and initiate procurement documentation for the acquisition of ship silencing electronic instrumentation. You will review shop reports of machinery mechanical fitups for the purposed of determining the type and extent of required rework to assure accepter mechanical performance after overhaul. You will be responsible for the direction of and participation in resilient mount replacement on submarine machinery and machinery bedplates.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Experience coordinating the preparation of agenda and procedures for acoustical surveys; - Experience determining procedures that will be utilized in the conduct of acoustical surveys; - Experience determining survey requirements in terms of scope of testing and instrumentation for use in instrument selection, check-out, and calibration, packing and shipping as required. - Experience in shop and shipboard vibration testing of overhauled submarine and surface ship auxiliary machinery and determine the instruments to be utilized. - Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents, and techniques sufficient to provide management advisory and technical services related to engineering operations, construction, material properties, processes and mechanical devices. - Experience utilizing Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) database to support development of Job Summary and Task Group Instructions, Material identification, selection, and procurement utilizing various databases including the development of Job Material Lists (JMLs).
