Duties

Supervise structural and wildland firefighting and rescue operations for hundreds of buildings. Direct placement of equipment, personnel, application of fire extinguishing agents and rescue of personnel. Determine the utilization of firefighters and equipment for combating hazardous incidents, fires, and other emergency situations. Perform firefighting duties such as handling hose, performing rescue operations, extinguishing fire and performing as a hazardous materials team member. Plan and organize work and evaluate subordinates performance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work.
  • This position requires you to wear the prescribed uniform and personal protective equipment while on duty in compliance with safety and health directives (OSHA).
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis with a work schedule of 144 hours per pay period.
  • This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position and maintain a functioning telephone to aid in contact during recall situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • This position requires you to conform to the requirements set-forth in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical fitness assessment and continued participation in a scheduled physical fitness program as directed by current Army regulatory guidance.
  • This position requires you to work both inside and outside with possibility exposure to inclement weather and adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position.
