Duties

Perform periodic inspections to evaluate compliance with appropriate safety and occupational health regulations. Analyze or evaluate new and existing jobs, processes, products or other systems to determine existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Train workers, supervisor, managers and other safety an occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on ore resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Inspector surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.

• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position and willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, and procedures; conducting safety and health inspections in a workplace environment; and advising and/or resolving technical matters dealing with occupational safety and/or health requirements. OR Education: Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
