The primary purpose of this position is to Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Flight Chief. Serves on a full-time basis as the AGE Flight Chief and exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing Powered and Non-Powered AGE (NPA) equipment to support both aircraft and non-aircraft weapon systems.

Performs Red X inspections certification duties. DUTY 5: Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate secret security clearance.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • This position is emergency-essential. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises.
  • This position cannot be vacated during national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • This meets the criteria of an Emergency-Essential position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status.
  • Employee must sign DD Form 2365 as a condition of employment.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • Cannot be color blind to colors used for runway operations (red, green, and white).
  • Must pass flight line vehicle operations test
  • Must acquire and maintain Red X inspection certification.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location.
  • Travel may include overnight stays.
  • May be required to train/guide (or other trades) employees.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. 2. Knowledge of regulations, practices, and procedures related to safety and hazardous waste handling and disposal. 3. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resource requirements including facilities, training, equipment, and supplies needed to accomplish work. 4. Knowledge of, skill, and ability in establishing production controls and standards, interpreting and implementing policy directives and instructions pertaining to maintenance, including environmentally safe maintenance practices. 5. Knowledge of, skill, and ability in applying principles of electricity, electronics, general mechanics, heating, refrigeration, pneumatics, hydraulics, and reciprocating and turbine engines. 6. Ability to study and interpret technical publications, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics to solve maintenance problems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
