As the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Lead within the Science and Space Technology Systems Branch of the Systems Engineering and Architecture Division at the NASA Glenn Research Center, you will lead a large, multi-Center team providing technical direction, insight, and surveillance of the systems engineering performed in execution of the successful development and delivery of the PPE spacecraft by the prime contractor.

Duties

Leads the integration of unique systems to satisfy vehicle requirements, providing systems engineering expertise to development of manned and unmanned space vehicles, payloads, test articles, and supporting systems. Performs systems engineering leadership duties and shared project system architect leadership roles to enable the successful implementation of NASA human spaceflight or human spaceflight-enabling programs and projects. Leads a team by planning, guiding, and managing the work of subordinate, secondary and matrixed resources, including civil servant and support contractor systems engineers, engaged in accomplishing organizational missions and functions. Identifies, distributes, and balances workload and tasks among team members in accordance with established workflow, skill level, or occupational specialization. Serves as an engineering authority in systems engineering, managing complex engineering work to meet mission milestones and ensure delivery of the completed flight/ground system. Provides technical direction, insight and oversight, and surveillance of systems engineering performed by prime contractor. Implements strategies to overcome difficult and complex technical, project management, and organizational problems using innovative and original approaches. Develops budget, schedule, and risk for project systems engineering and integration functions and products. Fosters a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading the full range of systems engineering and integration activities for major complex aerospace projects including requirements development, verification, and validation processes; Planning, directing, and coordinating the work of a group of engineers and researchers engaged in the systems engineering and integration development of space flight systems; Interacting and negotiating with a range of stakeholders including senior management officials to present and discuss technical information in a clear concise manner. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
