This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY.

Duties

Perform the full range of carpentry work. Fabricate concrete forms, scaffolds, storage pallets, storage bins, tables, workbenches and related items. Plan and lays out work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, and own knowledge of construction or needed repairs. Construct building frameworks including walls, floors, and doorframes. Utilize a variety of hand tools to cut materials of wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. Fabricate and installs frames or casings for windows, doors, transoms and ventilators.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is “Mission Essential” subject to scheduled/unscheduled overtime and emergency call back during non duty hours.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state and government driver's license.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the ability to lift approximately 44 lbs.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpenter ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common duties to include: Constructing a variety of wooden structures such as shingle roofing, flooring, or window frames. Using common tools such as hammers, saws and electric drills to repair, install, and modify wooden structures. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, bending and walking. Works on ladders and scaffolds which requires overhead work in stretched, cramped, and awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using tools such as hand saws and planers. Requires carrying and handling objects weighing up to 44 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Works with power tools that involve noise levels above 85dB(A), which requires use of hearing protective devices. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment; cuts and bruises in using hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools and in falls from ladders or scaffolds. Is exposed to paint fumes. Danger from infrared and ultra violet rays, requiring use of goggles. Blocking and bracing of explosives presents serious danger of life.
