About the Position: This position is with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division, Traffic Branch located at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Duties

Perform police patrolling activities, including, speeding and traffic and parking enforcement. Conduct traffic control points in support of accidents, special events or event security. Respond to motor vehicle accidents involving injuries and/or fatalities. Handle accidents involving government vehicles. Generate police reports for traffic accidents and traffic related offenses. Administer standardized field sobriety testing and breath alcohol screening. Conduct Driving Under Influence (DUI) investigations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • Successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes. These include weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions. The incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Incumbent must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must be able obtain and maintain a valid Secret Clearance.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
