About the Position: This position is located in Fort Knox, Kentucky-Facilities Division Operations. All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203)

Duties

Use hand or power tools to perform minor maintenance and repairs. Perform operational checks on maintenance equipment. Perform maintenance work involving trades, such as roofing, asphalt work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and cement work. Performs routine maintenance, overhaul, and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices such as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks. Perform operational tests to determine need for repair of building structures, fixtures, and utilities. Use precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices to perform routine maintenance tasks. Prepare materials according to direction. Review blueprints, repair manuals, and/or parts catalogs to perform maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One year trial or probationary period may be required.
• Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
• This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.

Working Conditions: Work assignments are conducted both inside and outside and the employee is subject to cuts and bruises and occasional falls.
