About the Position: The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers is comprised of motivated and talented employees providing the very best engineering services for communities in the Pacific Northwest. The District helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.

Duties

Writes, edits, and reviews engineering and scientific technical materials such as assessments, design and inspection reports, feasibility studies, scopes of work, fact sheets, records of decision, and operation and maintenance manuals. Gathers, analyzes, verifies information required for writing and editing assignments using a variety of resources, and determines the most logical sequence of the content. Researches, analyzes, and distills data for a variety of technical fields and presents the information in a clear, consistently written format as appropriate for the intended audience. Develops, updates, and maintains templates, policies, and procedural guidance for technical documents to achieve consistency applicable to changing regulations and standards. Applies a consistent set of style, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation on a variety of technical materials according to agency regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines. Advises and assists subject matter experts to make necessary adjustments on editing assignments to ensure technical materials are clear, concise, organized, and complete. Uses substantial knowledge of language and methods used in engineering and scientific fields to write, edit, and review technical content for clarity, accuracy, and style.

GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a wide variety of technical writing and editing in support of engineering, operations, hydrology, geology, environmental sciences, or other complex technical subject matters etc., to produce engineering and scientific reports, publications, fact sheets, and correspondence that requires analysis and transforming complex documentation into language that is tailored to specific audiences. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree that included a total of 15 semester hours in English Language Art (ELA) type classes, and at least one course above the introductory level in English Language Art (ELA) type classes. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceTechnical DocumentationWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????9).
