This position is located in the Community Health Department for the Wewoka IHS Health Center. The purpose of the position is to serve as a Fitness Specialist and function as a member of the Community Health Staff. This position reports to the Community Health Director.

Duties

Works closely with participants and family members to identify ways to increase physical activity and exercise and to develop strategies to meet exercise goals. Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive health promotion/fitness intervention program which includes promoting, analyzing, and restoring the health of persons with diabetes, their families, and employees. Assist in the planning and implementation of community activities such as exercise classes, personal training sessions and other community exercise related activities. Evaluate and advise on the organization, methods, and procedures for administrative support systems such as records, communications, directives, forms, files and documentation.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Plan, develop, implement and document a comprehensive health promotion/fitness program; identify ways to increase patient exercise; Encourage and motivate patients to achieve healthy lifestyle and weight loss goals; Document ongoing fitness plans and exercise goals; develop and implement one-on-one, partner, or group workout programs; assist with planning community fitness activities; analyze data and assess diabetic exercise program; prepare progress and data reports; maintain a collaborative relationship with tribal and/or community partners. OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-09 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
