You will serve as a Lead Firefighter (BLS/HAZMAT Response) in the Fire and Emergency Serices Department of NAVSUBASE KINGSBAY.

Duties

You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will use hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete an initial hazardous materials incident analysis. You will prepare patients for transport to medical facilities. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, aerial ladders, specialized rescue equipment) to control or eliminate fires.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48 hour on, 48 hour off basis, which includes weekends and holidays.
  • Employee is subject to mandatory overtime and recall and requires using all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1) Utilizing firefighting knowledge and extensive practical experience in the use of all types of fire prevention/protection procedures and equipment, (2) Leading the work of others based on priorities/deadlines and support goals, (3) Organizing and planning on scene firefighting, hazardous materials spills and emergency scene operations, and (4) Insuring certification in DoD Fire and Emergency Certification program requirements in accordance with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) mandate, DoD Instruction 6055.6 and 6055.6-M, and Operations Navy Instruction 11230.23. Note: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. **This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Apparatus Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operation, HAZMAT Technician, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT-B), Marine Firefighter, Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC), and CPR. These firefighter certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Copy of Certification MUST be submitted with your application.
