About the Position: The primary focus of this position is to provide professional library and information services in a medical library. Office islocated within the medical librarylocated at BAMC, 40 hour work week, 8 hour days, no nights/weekends

Duties

Provide reference and research assistance to library clientele in medical and related fields. Interact with clientele to establish their needs. Responsible for the collection development and management for a medical library. Ensure that access to information at other libraries and centers is available through the inter-library loan process. Ensure catalog records are accurate and current. Serve as the professional responsible for specialized collection of information resources within a medical library. Review bibliographies to recommend materials in designated subject specialties.

Basic Requirement: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience OR substitution of education for experience OR combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited collegeor university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree; OR A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing library automated systems to research, classify and catalog source materials; establishing the needs and requirements of costumers; educating customers in the use of various audio and/or electronic database tools; reviewing materials for a medical library collection to determine correct classification. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07) OR Education: 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceDatabase Management SystemsInventory Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07.
