You will serve as a Mail Assistant of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER JACKSONVILLE.

Duties

You will receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing Official Mail, U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, DOD/DON Inter-Agency and Messenger Mail and premium services such as FEDEX/UPS/DHL, etc. You will certify and operate electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision-making scales, and other postal and mail center equipment. You will obtain receipts and authorized signatures for all accountable and special handling mail. You will ensure all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all USPS, DOD/DON, regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Postal Affairs and other applicable guidelines and laws. You will examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements. You will operate various class (C) vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, and Inter-agency Mail using established scheduled routes and special mail runs. You will directly support the Installation Official Mail Manager and all aspects of the Official Mail Center.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You "may" be coded as "key" and as such may be required to be removed from your military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operator permit.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is an obligated position. The former incumbent has return rights to this position under PL 86-585.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing a full range of mail and filing procedures including receiving, sorting, delivering, and directing the distributing of incoming and outgoing mail. Specialized experience may include the following: 1) Operating electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision-making scales and other postal and mail center equipment. 2) Examining all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, and compliance with packing and labeling requirements. 3) Determining the correct organizational segment to which mail is addressed and distributing into principal classifications by identification mail code numbers, zip codes, locations, or similar routing instruction. 4) Operating vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch mail.
