This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Persons of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: PERMANENT position as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Remove, replace and repair HVAC compressors and related components; recharges systems with refrigerant, balances systems for efficient operation, reconditions, modifies, replace and fabricates parts. Removes, replaces and repairs electric components, i.e. connectors, magnetic starters, overloads timers, motors, transformers, contractors etc. Removes, repairs, cleans, replaces and installs steam and hot water heating coils, controls, and other components in an air conditioning and heating unit. Performs the entire scope of work involved in the troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and replacement of residential and commercial HVAC system equipment; This includes gas water heaters, air compressors and water circulating pumps.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Valid State Driver's License is required.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical is required.
  • Incumbent must posses a valid Refrigerant, Transition and Recovery Certification, Universal license as required by law to handle and dispense HVAC refrigerants.
  • Drug testing designated position.
  • Occasionally may lift and carry item over 50 pounds.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as maintain temperature and relative humidity in buildings; remove, repair, clean, replace and install steam and hot water heating and cooling coils, controls in air conditioning units up to the supply and return shut-off valves; perform routine electrical repairs and installation. I can inspect, repair and service industrial and domestic air conditioning and heating systems. I work under normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools ,equipment, parts that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry item over 50pounds. Working Conditions: Works inside buildings, shops, and outside, Subject to contact with dirt, dust and grease and to shocks and burns from high voltage, cuts, and bruises. Must possess a valid driver's license.
