The position is located in Facilities Management Division (AFM), Operations Department of the National Gallery of Art. The purpose of this position is to repair, inspect, operate, service, troubleshoot and maintain building mechanical equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating systems, and necessary action to restore any electrical, plumbing or control (BAS) systems when an emergency breakdown occurs.

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Designated and/or random drug testing may be required.
  • Selective Serivice Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • The selected candidate will provide a medical examination document.
  • Subject to a background/suitability investigation.

Candidates must meet the qualification requirements for WG-5306-05, which includes possession of the following job elements: Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these job elements to determine the best-qualified candidates: The following elements as defined in Civil Service Handbook X-118C are used: Element 1        Ability to Perform the Duties of the Position Without More than Normal Supervision (Screen –out Element) Element 2-E    Knowledge of HVAC/Mechanical Equipment Assembly, Installation and Repair Element 25-E  Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Element 75-A  Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc., (includes Blueprint Reading) Element 81      Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Element 82-A  Knowledge of Materials Element 96      Ability to Troubleshoot Mechanical/HVAC Systems Problems
