The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronics equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity.

Duties

- Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electronics equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity. - Sets up and operates software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot various components and assemblies of electronic equipment - Uses and maintains hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Documents work assignments through the use of AFTO Form 781 series and Core Automated Maintenance Systems (CAMS) computer terminals.

  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location.
  • Travel may include overnight stays. Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping.
  • Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.
  • This position is emergency essential. In the event of a crisis, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises.
  • This position cannot be vacated during national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • This meets the criteria of an Emergency-Essential position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status.
  • Employee must sign DD Form 2365 as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory; and operating electronic principles such as microminiaturized digital and solid state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, tube circuits, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, and amplification. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, and special test panels; and the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and microsoldering units. 4. Ability to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits and the interaction of other circuits to create a malfunction; and perform functional tests on items to determine the extent of repair required, make repairs, and replace defective components and parts. 5. Ability to assist engineers in developing, debugging, or modifying diagnostic programs by identifying and investigating apparent contradictions between test specifications or test requirement documents and test programs. 6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
