Job opening: INTERDISCIPLINARY LIBRARIAN-ARCHIVIST

You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY LIBRARIAN-ARCHIVIST in the Library Branch of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Duties

You will develop definitive analytical subject guides for selected groups, series, or major collections of visual records relating to operations and development of the US Navy. You will identify and establish priority for digitalization and electronic posting collections of records (images) relating to the operational history of the US Navy from 1840-1970. You will formulate cataloging policies and procedures and provide technical guidance and expertise to Photo Section staff. You will assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments and the capabilities of employee. You will determine, coordinate, and implement Section goals under general guidance contained in the mission statements of the Naval History and Heritage Command and the Navy Department Library.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a LIBRARIAN-ARCHIVIST. Examples of specialzied experience include all of the following: 1) Determine, coordinate, and implement Section goals under general guidance contained in the mission statements of a Command and Library; 2) Formulate cataloging policies and procedures and provides technical guidance and expertise to Photo Section staff; 3) Analyze photographic and film records in relation to function, background, content and use to appraise their inherent evidential or informational values and make recommendations regarding their accessioning for temporary or permanent retention on their destruction; and 4) Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments and the capabilities of employee. 1420:

A) I have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

B) I have a combination of education and experience with at least 30 semester hours of courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1410:

A) I have completed 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree.

B) I have a total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. My education, training, and experience established knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
