About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Serves as a Victim Advocate Coordinator providing comprehensive assistance and liaison services to and for victims of spouse abuse and educating personnel. Screens victims of spouse abuse, evaluates their needs, and provides them with information about domestic violence, safe and confidential ways to seek assistance. Coordinates with case manager in developing appropriate plan of assistance/intervention. Assists in conducting support groups for victims. Confers with medical staff and state representatives to exchange facts and to identify need for protective child services. Conducts unit briefings on installation Family Advocacy Program policies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Background/records check, IAW DoDI 1402.05, AR 608-18 (MPs-NCIC, ASAP, ACR and State Child Protective Services) and Army Directive 2014-23, IMCOM G9 Memorandum, dated 26 June 2015, directing a CNACI, are required for this position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Must be available to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position requires participation in 24-hour rotation emergency coverage but not more than 2 or more consecutive weeks at a time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as social work, psychology, sociology or counseling. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) -OR- Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) assisting with victims of child abuse and/or domestic violence, (2) maintaining administrative files and/or records, and (3) assisting with education programs such as Child Abuse Prevention Month and/or Domestic Violence Prevention Month. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: social work, psychology, sociology or counseling. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
