About the Position: Serve as a Safety Specialist participating in all aspects of XVIII Airborne Corps tactical exercises or maneuvers and all other XVIII Airborne Corps safety initiatives. Fort Bragg is a culturally diverse area with both rural and city populations, co-located at Fayetteville, NC, centrally located in the beautiful state of NC, which enjoys a temperate year-round climate and world-renowned colleges and universities.

Duties

Evaluate safety program efforts; standards, rules, SOPs, and work techniques. Provide technical assistance and guidance to major unit commanders, staff officers, activity chiefs, and supervisors on all work related problems and matters. identify and analyze the severity of hazard involved and develop corrective action. Provide technical safety advice and assistance on matters pertaining to specialized military activities. Carry out safety education activities, promoting safety awareness. Monitor Safety Improvement /Awareness Programs to evaluate the effectiveness of training. Coordinate problem solving activities involved in the procurement of required safety equipment, determination of respirator requirements, and industrial hygiene issues with related operational and support program personnel. Conduct independent and joint risk management studies for operations/exercises and assists others with risk management decisions Research and evaluate operations and risks, and identifies/develops methods/techniques to control/eliminate hazardous conditions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position deployable (World-Wide) with Military Units assigned/attached to the 32d AAMDC in support of Tactical Contingency, and Field Operations.
  • A pre-appointment physical is required. A physical Examination for Deployment is required.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) is required up to 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission required.
  • Must frequently work outdoors. Protective clothing and equipment are required to be worn. May be required to perform work wearing chemical protection mask and clothing.
  • Deployment and participation in military exercises may expose incumbent to extremes in temperatures. Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered.
  • May be required to perform work wearing chemical protection mask and clothing.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform work requiring chemical protective masks and protective clothing.
  • Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
  • This position mandates walking, standing, stooping, bending, carrying and similar movements, as well as agility, stamina, and dexterity.
  • During deployment, physical demands may be greatly increased and require extended walking with rucksack weighing about 50 pounds.
  • Rations and quarters may be similar to that provided to military personnel. Incumbent may be required to work irregular duty hours and extended hours.
  • Must pass a mandatory drug test before appointment and periodically thereafter.
