You will serve as a Physical Scientist within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Duties

You will assess environmental and other requirements. You will identify, assess and acquire the required acoustics, oceanographic, geological and geophysical data. You will conduct regional or site specific environmental, financial and logistical syntheses. You will work with Branch personnel and sponsor designated contractors in evaluating the adequacy of the information provided. You will participate as the team leader seeking to solve problems of a magnitude, complexity, and urgency which require working both independently and closely with other team members.

Qualifications

This position has a Selective Placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The Selective Placement factor is: The incumbent must have professional knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and established methodology of physics mathematics, acoustics, oceanography, ocean engineering, other physical sciences, and system engineering principles and practices sufficient to identify technical solutions related to the programs of interest. He/she must demonstrate broad progressive experience in the fields of acoustics, oceanography and hydrography. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11/13) or pay band (NP-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following: 1) Ability to direct research in the areas of geological, oceanographic, and/or acoustic characterization of the seafloor and the development of advanced 3D environmental characterizations and models for seabed warfare related sending systems; 2) Ability to evaluate data, models and simulations for Navy acoustic system performance prediction, acoustic and supporting model development and surveillance systems; 3) Knowledge of the latest techniques of data collection, reduction, and interpretation of geophysical data derived from state of the art seafloor sensing systems such as modern towed sonar systems and hull-mounted multi-beam bathymetric sonar systems; 4) Knowledge of a variety of Navy data collection and surveillance systems; 5) Knowledge of Navy budgeting and procurement processes; AND 6) Ability to communicate orally and in writing and to represent NRL as a team lead. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
  1. Advanced Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
  1. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
