This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

You will troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and overhaul a variety of large air conditioning systems that provide heating, cooling, dehumidifying, and controls for humidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulation. You will diagnose and repair problems such as leaks in lines, dirty or worn points, faulty valves, etc. You will test and adjust pressure for efficient operation and correct temperatures. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair ventilation equipment, including air handling units, fan coil units, exhaust fans, circulating fans, and fresh air fans. You will check units for proper lubrication, worn bearings or bushings, bent blades, and replaces parts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Universal CFC certification is required. In accordance with section 608 CAA 1990, incumbent must be certified as a universal technician as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation or DOD operator's permit requirement for the type of equipment operated.
  • Assures that environmental, safety, and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Its incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Performing preventive maintenance tasks replacing filters, cleaning condensing and evaporative coils, lubing electrical and pump motors, checking refrigerant pressures, cleaning condensation pans; troubleshoot and repair electrical problems, replace compressors, condensing fans, blower wheels, bearings and other HVAC system components; Calculate airflow and balance to achieve and maintain proper airflow through complete air conditioning systems; experience utilizing building automated systems to diagnose problems with direct digital control as well as mechanical components - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a universal CFC certification. A copy of this certification must be uploaded with your application in order to receive consideration for this position. Physical Efforts - Work involves strenuous, heavy physical effort in constantly reaching, bending, and turning. Equipment work on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Weight handling equipment is available when handling large units. Ladders, scaffolds, and platforms may be used when working on large systems or roofs.??????? Work Conditions - Work is performed outside, in all types of weather. Subject to sudden temperature changes and extreme cold during repair of large walk-in refrigerators and in mechanical rooms having extreme temperatures. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Exposed to possibility of injury from electrical current. Exposed to cleaning chemicals. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required.
