About the Position: This position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center in the Nutrition Care Division.

Duties

Initiate meal service in accordance with prescribed patient diet. Arrange, deliver, and/or collect food trays in accordance with proper food service procedures. Ensure accuracy of delivered trays by checking menu items on the tray against menu and/or diet roster. Answer subordinates questions regarding policies, procedures and deadlines to ensure accuracy. Ensure needed instructions, equipment, and/or material are at the work site for accurate and timely work completion. Use proper food handling techniques to prevent contamination.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. Incumbent will be required to report to work or remains at work even during emergency situations or severe weather conditions.
  • Position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
  • Position works on an alternate work schedule. The incumbent will be assigned to one of three teams rotating shifts, to include evening, holidays, weekends, and early and late shifts. Shift hours are 0500-1330; 1100-1930; 0730-1600.
  • Position requires light to heavy physical efforts, such as lifting items weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Position requires immunization screening.
  • Position may require overtime work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience assisting with performing common tasks of a Food Service Worker Leader assembling tray items; delivering and collecting food trays; and ensuring proper storage of food items and supplies - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work includes duties requiring light to heavy physical efforts, such as frequently lifting items weighing up to 45 pounds (trays of food or dishes); frequent pushing tray service carts, utility carts, etc. when fully loaded. Work involves constant walking, pushing, standing, and frequent talking, stooping, bending, and lifting. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy, e.g., noisy kitchen and dishwashing areas. Worker is exposed to the danger of minor cuts, bruises, and burns from equipment. There is danger of slipping on floors, which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverages have been spilled. Work is performed on non-resilient tile flooring. Incumbent is exposed to extreme temperature changes in moving from hot kitchen areas to walk-in cold storage areas. Workers may be exposed to hostility or other unnatural reactions from patients, along with potential unpleasant sights and smells of patient care areas. Works under established time deadlines.
