As an AST, Electronics Instrumentation Systems Engineer within the Exploration Systems and Operations Division, you will serve as Hazardous Gas Leak Detection systems engineer responsible for providing technical evaluations on instrumentation spanning Flight and Ground interfaces across multiple programs, and contractors. You will lead a highly specialized technical team involved in the design, development, fabrication, operations, and sustaining of Ground Electronic Instrumentation systems.

Duties

Serves as Hazardous Gas Leak Detection subject matter expert for design, development, fabrication, verification and validation testing, troubleshooting, operations, and sustaining engineering. Oversees supporting contractor for Artemis operational activities of Hazardous Gas Leak Detection Subsystem which consists of Mass Spectrometry Leak Detection, Remote Gas Leak Detection, and Fire Leak Detection. Operates console during Launch Equipment Test Facility testing and Stennis Space Center (SSC) Green Run testing including cryogenic loading. Serves on console during day-of-launch activities providing real-time system evaluation and technical guidance providing official go/no-go call during launch. Provides technical direction to program or project management, government and contractor engineers, and technicians during installation, modification, and checkout of Hazardous Gas Leak Detection Subsystems. Serves as senior technical lead covering test, checkout and launch countdown of Artemis Flight vehicle including technical requirements, Launch Commit Criteria, and work procedures. Develops and/or approves detailed test procedures, conducts tests, evaluates results, and/or devises and initiates system design modifications to eliminate anomalies. Assists in the formulation, design, development, implementation, and modification of electronic and analytical instrumentation systems and equipment. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Providing terminal Launch console support in Hazardous Gas Leak Detection Subsystems executing procedures, monitoring Launch Commit Criteria (LCC), and coordinating post-flight data review; Accessing laboratory testing of hypergolic and toxic vapors detection systems to improve performance of Mass Spectrometry Leak Detection Engineering; and Supporting instrumentation systems to include design, development, operations, and sustaining engineering. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
