About the Position: Serves as an Engineering Equipment Operator. Operates and performs operator maintenance on a variety of construction-type equipment including crawler type tractors, farm type tractors, motor graders, wheel-loaders, gang mowers, track excavators, brush hogs, skid steers, and forklifts throughout Fort Cavazos Texas.

Duties

Operate a variety of wheeled (from 1/4 ton to 22 ton) and tracked (up to 60 tons) vehicles in transport, storage placement, load carrying and equipment transfer. Operate large industrial vehicles (farm tractor, bulldozer, dump trucks, cargo trucks, tractor trailer, cranes, etc.) through confined spaces to avoid damage to equipment and surrounding area. Comply with environmental laws/regulations for the selection and application of herbicides and insecticides used control of control plant diseases, undesirable insects, and unwanted grass and weeds. Operate gasoline/diesel powered industrial vehicles in a variety of road, terrains, and weather conditions in accordance with safety rules/regulations. Interpret regulatory requirements in placement, storage and shipment of materiel and equipment. Operate large industrial vehicles on steep and rough terrain under changing weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to submit to random alcohol and drug testing.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical exam.
  • This position requires the incumbent to lift up to 50 lbs. on a reoccurring basis.
  • This position requires the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • This position requires irregular work hours after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings and nights.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate commercial vehicles required by this position.
  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Position requires participation in DoD medical surveillance program.

Operate vehicles not capable of being driven with draw bars.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Screen Out Element - Minimum Qualifications for WG-5719-09: Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I am able to perform the common duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator including operating a wide variety of engineer, Military wheel and track equipment in receiving, storage, issue and movement to storage and maintenance facilities. Operating cranes to load and unload vehicles and equipment. Perform earth moving operations. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment OperatorWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent, in operating wheeled and tracked vehicles, is required to climb, stoop, and work in awkward positions. Lifts and moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds individually. Exerts physical effort in removing blocking and bracing materials from rail cars using wrenching bars. May be required to work in cramped positions for extended periods of time in working in and around rail cars. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside (30%) and outside (70%). Exposed to the environment, dust, dirt, fumes, cuts, bruises, falls and broken bones while working on, in, around vehicles, rail cars, forklifts, etc. Hearing protective devices and other protective devices and safety equipment must be worn at all times of exposure to the hazardous condition(s). Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria for compensation by environmental or hazard pay.
