About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist at the USSOUTHCOM Inter-American Defense College in Washington D.C.

Duties

Serve as the Director of Strategic Communication and External Relations (STRATCOM/ER) for the Director of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC). Advise management regarding the formulation and articulation of agency policy pertaining to the release of information to the public. Evaluate the effectiveness of information and communication programs to continuously improve the organization. Develop and disseminate informational materials to the general public. Implement a strategic communications and engagement program to promote the academic excellence offered at IADC, its programs and activities, and the value of the organization to Western Hemispheric security. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all media sources throughout the community.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and/or maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent must have exceptional written and oral communication skills in Spanish or Portuguese languages at 2+/2+/2+ level.
  • One year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Develop informational materials to distribute to the public based on the identification of communication needs; 2). Generate awareness among the public through the implementation of strategic outreach programs throughout the community; 3). Assign work to personnel based on priority to meet organizational deadlines; and 4). Ensure the events of distinguished guests' schedules are punctually organized. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailManaging Human ResourcesPublic Affairs Policies and Procedures Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
