Duties

Supervises a subordinate staff responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs directed at creating and maintaining a safe and healthful workplace for all NIH employees, staff, patients, and visitors at the NIH. Provides technical and administrative leadership and direction in the development and implementation of specific programs to promote and enhance safety and health efforts at NIH. Directs activities that support the orientation and training of new DOHS employees and other professionals. Serves as a chair, member, or consultant to NIH committees and management on matters dealing with occupational safety and health issues, or when deemed appropriate, assigns/approves Branch staff to serve on committees. Arranges meetings and seminars for national and international scientists and safety experts visiting NIH to foster exchange of information. Develops and maintains contacts with peers in the fields of biomedical research and occupational safety and health in government, industry, and academia.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation, verification of qualifications, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, and any other job-related requirement before or after appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-14 level: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing direction and guidance to safety and occupational health program staff members; developing policies and procedures relating to health, safety, and environmental activities; identifying, analyzing and advising on the feasibility of opportunities for continuous improvement to complex health, safety and environmental challenges; and overseeing the development and presentation of all formal orientation and training courses related to health, safety and environmental activities. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
