About the Position: Serves as the first line Supervisory Police Officer (Conservation Law Enforcement) for the Ft. Leavenworth Police Department. Recruitment, relocation and/or retention incentives MAY be authorized for this position. Moving expenses are NOT authorized.

Duties

Enforce Federal, State and installation fish and wildlife regulations. Conduct investigations into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws. Develop evidence in support of legal charges against Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws. Conduct surveillance and physical inspections of perimeter barriers. Enforce jurisdictional limits of restricted areas of water and land boundaries. Supervise the completion of investigations or other law enforcement related tasks. Assign work to subordinates, establish performance standards and evaluate completed work. Effect minor disciplinary measures to subordinates such as warnings and reprimands. Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol and issue citations, tickets and warnings.

Requirements

  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Medical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Must successfully graduate from the US Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course or USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer approved training within one year of assignment.
  • Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and/or maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test.
  • This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Managing Human ResourcesPhysical SecurityTechnical CompetenceViolation Detection Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements.
