About the Position: Job consists of office work and traveling to and from remote repair shops by GSA vehicle. The Work requires considerable amount of walking in and around maintenance areas to inspect and assess work being done by employees from all repair shops throughout the month. Telework is not feasible due to the type of work required. Work schedule at start begins 0800 to 1630 5x8 but after initial 90 days can be negotiated with in the Alternate and Compressed work schedules.

Duties

Serves as Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, administering all aspects of Safety Program for the organization. Accomplishes a wide range of Safety and Occupational Health duties to include: accident investigations; review and analysis of safety data; recognition, evaluation, and control of safety and health hazards; and development of hazard analyses. Investigates accidents and injuries. Collects and analyzes data to determine trends and mishap causes; develop correlation between type of accident/injury, organization, job, etc., and recommend ways to eliminate or control the hazards detected. Performs organization Fire Marshal, responsible for planning, organizing, and providing fire prevention training. Provides formal and informal training on standard, general safety and occupational health subjects including mishap prevention, office safety and safe working practices. Serves as a back-up to the Installation Respiratory Specialist, recommending changes to work plans, trade, practices, and operating procedures to improve on-site use of respiratory protective devices. Performs other administrative duties such as maintenance of files, safety reference library, preparing, reading and routing correspondence and reports.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a T-3 Secret security clearance.
  • Pre-employment medical examination is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state and government driver's license.
  • Position may require Temporary Duty (TDY)/business travel of up to 25% of normal duties.

OR Education: Undergraduate and/or Graduate Education degree with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Certification: Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5.
